In larger doses and durations Carbon monoxide is lethal, and that's why your safety should always be a concern.

ASHRAE Standard 62.1 Ventilation for Acceptable Indoor Air Quality: limits (CO) exposure for a residential facility shall not exceed more than 9 ppm over a continuous 8-hours Time Average over a 1-year period. (CO) level can not exceed 35 ppm over a continuous 8-hour period. Any exposure continuously to (CO) levels over 35 ppm is considered unsafe and the area should be evacuated immediately
